Condemnation of Suicide Attack near Sayeda Zainab (s.a) Shrine, Damascus

Dated: February 4, 2016

World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) condemns the cowardly devastating suicide bomb attack of 1st February  outside the Sayeda Zainab (s.a) shrine in Damascus, Syria, which has claimed 70 lives so far and  injured numerous people. WABIL offers its sincere condolences to the families of those martyred, the injured, and to the Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad who is facing a continuous unlawful attack on the sovereignty of his legitimate state.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack in which firstly it detonated a car bomb near a bus full of civilians and then when people came out to help the injured, two terrorists detonated themselves  amongst the rescuers. Such cold-blooded senseless murder puts the so-called Islamic State utterly beyond the pale of Islam. Further, ISIS claims that these two suicide bombers are martyrs, yet they are nothing but murderers of innocent civilians.

The attack has been timed to coincide with the talks in Geneva between the Syrian government and the opposition, and was meant to destaibilise any possibility of peace in the hitherto most progressive and democratic government in the Middle East.  Further, the attack on sacred religious sites not only show that ISIS is made up of barbaric, uncultured, and uncivilised heathens out to destroy humanity, but also that they are desperate to create a sectarian divide in Syria.

WABIL not only condemns this attack in the strongest of words, but we urge the International  community to also condemn and alienate ISIS, to take to account all those funding and arming this illegitimate entity, and to help Syria in its fight against terrorism and rebuilding it as a stable democratic country.
