Question:

Salamun Alaikum, How should we calculate the correct timing for iftaar? Should it be from sunset, if so how many minutes after it? I would be grateful if you could reply today as I have an invitation for iftar with my Sunni brothers.

Answer:

Iftar time is when the night starts, as we read in Quran ( then complete
the fast till night)
It differs from place to place. You may ask the scholars in your place
about the real time of Maghrib at your place.

Question ID 1630 Monday 7th of July 2014

Question:

Bismillah Hir Rahman Nir Rahim, Salam Alaykum, Please note that i was the Muqalid of Ayatullah Khoyi and after his death i followed Ayatullah Muhammad Reza Golpaygani and then to Ayatullah Araki and presently the Muqalid of Ayatullah Sistani. But I never have any Tauseehul Masail of Ayatullah Golpaygani & Araki. I shifted the niyat of Taqleed based on the announcements of that time. Now I want to know for the ruling of Moon sighting whom i have to follow as there is a difference of rulings on Ayatullah Khoi & Ayatllah Sistani. Also I want to know which Marja I have to follow for the rulings during Haj. Please explain me in details. Shukran Jazak Allah.

Answer:

If you started implementing the Fatwas of Ayatullah Sistani in any
matter, you are not allowed to revert on these matters to Ayatullah Khoei
again.
If you did not act upon the Fatwa of the living Marja' in any matter, and
you want to remain in these matters on the Fatwa of the deceased Marja' who
is more knowledgeable (A'lam), you can do so.

Question ID 1621 Saturday 5th of July 2014

Question:

Salam, My husbands cousin is visiting UK during Ramadan. He will be staying with some relative in other city.when in our homeland, they lived in different cities and hardly meet each other.he never bothered to inform my husband and his family even when in their city.My husband is the one who always kept in touch via phone at email. Now he wants to know is it wajib on him to go and meet him as his fast will be qasr in this case or is it enough to talk on phone. Plz reply asap JazakAllah

Answer:

Maintaining good relation with relatives is obligatory in Islam. Your
husband should do his best to maintain good relation with his cousin in
every possible way. Traveling for this purpose is very good, even if he has
to miss fasting due to travel and make Qaza of missed days. If just phoning
is accepted in your family, then it is good, but it shouldnnotvlook like
that your husband is not caring enough to his cousin.
Wassalam.
