Statement Condemning Jokes Regarding Quranic Verses
World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) draws the attention of the global Shia community that it serves to the fact that Islam and its image have been attacked from all sides - inside and outside the faith, either through Muslim majority nations being invaded via brain-washed takfiri terrorists and mercenaries, or the woman’s sense of dignified dress and hijab being questioned, or by the media fuelling Islamophobia.
The masses are slowly seeing through these proxies of the enemies and even the general masses in the West are realising that the mischief mongers are not the Muslims, but are tyrant monarchies and governments who are hand in glove with the anti-humanity satanic forces.
But we wish to bring to notice a very disturbing trend from within the Ummah (community) which is of even more concern than the attacks outlined above. We have noticed jokes being circulated in the social media, about Quranic Ayats (verses) and hadiths, where both Quran and Hadiths are used to create humour.
Though some may argue that the intention was not to offend, the very fact that the Quran, which is Allah's word and guidance for all humanity, and the hadith, which helps us further understand the values of Islam, are used in jokes means that they are being marginalised and made light of by such acts of ridicule and disrespect. This is extremely ungodly, offensive, and ungrateful behaviour, and one which will undoubtedly displease Allah.
We fear that such acts besides being sinful in some cases will reduce the importance of and reverence to the Holy Scripture, thus corroding the values of our faith. Furthermore, it is a blatant invitation to our enemies to abuse and ridicule Allah’s words. The Quran is like no other book: it is heavenly, and the direct words of Allah for the upliftment of mankind. Reducing it to ridicule in jokes is wholly unacceptable.
Therefore we request and instruct all believers to absolutely refrain from circulating such matter. If you do receive such material, then advise the senders to stop these blasphemous acts.
We remind all our readers of Quranic verses where Allah admonishes those who take the Quran and Allah’s guidance lightly:
Quran 2:67
“… and do not take Allah's communications for a mockery, and remember the favour of Allah upon you, and that which He has revealed to you of the Book and the Wisdom, admonishing you thereby; and be careful (of your duty to) Allah, and know that Allah is the Knower of all things.”
Quran 5:57
“O you who believe! do not take for guardians those who take your religion for a mockery and a joke, from among those who were given the Book before you and the unbelievers; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah if you are believers.”
Quran 9:65
“And if you should question them, they would certainly say: We were only idly discoursing and sporting. Say: Was it at Allah and His communications and His Messenger that you mocked?”
Quran 14:19-20
“Do you not see that Allah created the heavens and the earth with truth? If He please He will take you off and bring a new creation, And this is not difficult for Allah.”
Quran 21:16
“And We did not create the heaven and the earth and what is between them for sport.”
Quran 38:27
“And We did not create the heaven and the earth and what is between them in vain; that is the opinion of those who disbelieve then woe to those who disbelieve on account of the fire.”
Quran 44:38
“And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them for sport.”
[Notice this verse repeated in the Quran for emphasis.]
Quran 45:34-35
“And it shall be said: Today We forsake you as you neglected the meeting of this day of yours and your abode is the fire, and there are not for you any helpers. That is because you took the communications of Allah for a jest and the life of this world deceived you. So on that day they shall not be brought forth from it, nor shall they be granted goodwill.”
WABIL reminds all believers to be aware of Allah (swt) at all times, to be grateful for the guidance He sends in the form of the Quran and the Ahlul Bayt (as), its interpreters and best lived examples, and to treat the Quran with seriousness and dignity.
