Condemnation of Terrorist Attack on Muslim Welfare House and Finsbury Park Mosque, London

World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) condemns the utterly appalling terrorist attack on Muslims at Seven Sisters Road, London, outside the Muslims Welfare House and the Finsbury Park Mosque. Devout worshippers who were about to return home after Ramadhan night worship were attacked by a white van being driven into them, killing at least one and seriously injuring 8 others.  The assailant was apprehended, shouting 'kill all Muslims'. WABIl condemns this terrorist assault on peaceful law-abiding British citizens.

Britain is a very diverse mixed society of different cultures, ethnicities and religions. The right to freedom of religion and life are fundamental rights for all human beings. Hatred on the basis of religion is to be severely condemned. We believe these Islamophobic attacks are the direct result of hate being ignited by the actions of ISIS and its extremist attacks. However hate cannot be answered with hate.

WABIL is equally appalled at how some of the media is trying to blame the Muslms, as if Finsbury Park mosque is extremist and as if its law-abiding victims were responsible for the terror. The victim is never responsible for the actions of the aggressor. Finsbury Park Mosque has worked very hard to build a peaceful tolerant mixed community over the years.

We understand that a 48 year old white man has been arrested following the attack and the Prime Minister has stated that the incident is being treated as a potential terrorist attack. We support and urge the government to treat this like the other terrorist attacks we have witnessed recently, and to bring the full weight of the terrorist legislation down on the perpetrators.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
