World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League WABIL utterly condemns the appalling attack on hotels and churches across Sri Lanka as Christian worshippers gathered for Easter Sunday. WABIL sends condolences to the Sri Lankan people as they come to terms with this horror. With the death toll standing at over 200 and 450 injured, we cannot begin to imagine the pain of the Sri Lankan people.

Although nobody as yet has claimed responsibility, we know that this is the work of the enemies of humanity, diversity and peace. We as Shias know too well the effects of being attacked by terrorists for our faith.

As we had started our day today celebrating the birth of the last awaited Imam, Imam Mahdi the Saviour, our celebrations have been dampened by the pain that we feel for Sri Lanka. We pray for justice, and we stand with the Sri Lankan authorities in their efforts to bring the perpetrators to account.
