The Unlawful Execution of Shaikh Nimr Baqir Al-Nimr

The Execution of Shaikh Nimr Baqir Al-Nimr

Today we have heard the devastating news that our beloved alim from Qatif Shaikh Nimr Baqir Al-Nimr has been executed by the oppressive tyrannical Saudi regime. Our grief is uncontainable at this moment, but our concern is for the families and loved ones of the martyrs. World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) offers its sincere and grief-stricken condolences to these brave patient families and all believers across the globe.

Shaikh Nimr was arrested in 2012 following unrest in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia due to the extreme discrimination of the Saudi regime against the Shia minority. Shaikh Nimr was falsely charged with terrorism and trying to cause an armed uprising against the regime. All charges were false: Shaikh Nimr bravely and continuously spoke up against the regime’s corrupt and anti-democratic nature, he worked for reform but never incited terrorism. Shaikh Nimr had tirelessly campaigned for the human rights of prisoners and oppressed people.

We vehemently condemn the killing of a man today who simply demanded basic human rights for his fellow citizens.

The greatest injustice is that Shaikh Nimr, along with 3 other Shias, was executed today simply for their beliefs, but they have been presented as ‘terrorists’ along with 42 others executed today who were known for their links with Al-Qaeda and ISIS. To present a peaceful activist as a terrorist is indeed the height of injustice.

Shaikh Nimr said some time ago;

"We have the determination to resist your injustice and we will not surrender. The most you can do is to kill us, and we welcome martyrdom for the sake of Allah. Life does not end when one dies. Real life begins when one dies. Either we live on this land as free men or we die and be buried in it as pious men".

Today, we salute a great soul who had such a vision and whose loss cannot be captured in words.

May Allah hasten the reappearance of the awaited saviour of humanity The Imam of our Time (atfs) and may justice prevail.
