Question:

Salam, My question is with regards to Istekhara. I recently did an istekhara for a personal matter and used the method which entailed using a thasbeeh. The method I used was to make the intention to pursue the goal, recite salawat 3 times and then randomly holding the thasbeeh and passing through two beads at a time. If the thasbeeh ended with two beads left, then this meant that it was not recommended, however if one bead remained then it was recommended. The result at this point came back as a negative. The following day, I met a scholar near the shrine of Imam Hussain as who advised me that istekhara is best done using the holy quran. He helped me perform the istekhara the 2nd time and this time the istekhara returned as strongly recommended. My question is, should I go by the first result which was done in a simpler way and came back as negative or would the 2nd istekhara carry more weight given the use of the holy quran which came out positive? Thank you, Zee Shah

Answer:

You may act upon the first Istikhara and not the second one, as there is no
meaning for the second Istikhara after you have already taken the first one.
It is not right to say that Quran Istikhara is the best, because only
those who understand the meanings of the Quranic verses can see Quranic
Istikhara, and they are not too many. Tasbeeh Istikhara is more suitable
for most of people including Shaikhs who might not be able to understand
the meaning of many Quranic verses.

Question:

I do Taqleed of Ayatullah Sistani. As part of Aqiqa is it required to shave the head of a new born child? My parents insist that it is required, but from what I have read it looks like it is a recommended act. What is the reason for this being a recommended act? Doctors say that the womb hair naturally falls off over the course of time. Finally, is Aqiqa (sacrifice of animal) and charity from the sunnah of the Prophet or is there some other reason for it?

Answer:

Aqiqa is recommended always and more recommended on the seventh day after
birth of the child. It is a Sunnah of the Prophet (SAWA) as he did Aqiqa
for Hasan (AS) and Husain (AS) and all children who were born in his family.
Shaving the hair of the child is another recommended act, but not part of
Aqiqa. It is recommended to shave the hair of the child on the seventh day
after birth and weigh it, then give Sadaqa equivalent to the weight of the
hair.
