Eid e Zahra (sa)

Eid e Zahra (sa)

On this wonderful occasion of Eid e Zahra (as) on 9 Rabiul Awwal, World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) congratulates all believers on the beginning of the Imamate of our Master and Imam of the Time, the 12th and final infallible successor to the Prophet Muhammad (saw), Imam Mahdi (as).

Our celebrations are on two counts: firstly this is the day that Imam Zainul Abideen (as) the son of Imam Husain (as) ended the mourning period for the martyrdom of his father Imam Husain ibn Ali (as) the great martyr, five years after the massacre at Karbala, in 66 AH. For 2 months and 8 days, we have donned black clothes as a protest to signify our grief and mourning against the oppression of Imam Husain (as). But today, when the Prophet’s tormented progeny finally got some relief through the revenge of Mukhtar al-Saqafi, the loyal companion, with the killing of the murderer Umar ibn Saad, Imam Zainul Abideen finally smiled and ordered his family to end their mourning period. Ending the period of grief however does not remove Imam Husain (as) from our hearts: quite the contrary, the lessons of devotion, justice and righteousness that we learn from his sacrifice are lessons that we now strive to live by over the year.

Our second reason for celebration is because on this day, Imam Mahdi (as)’s imamate began in 260 AH / 874 CE after the martyrdom of his father Imam Hasan al-Askari (as). Imam Mahdi (as) was merely 5 years old, but Infallibles regardless of age come endowed with complete knowledge.  However, for his safety he was taken into occultation by Allah, to communicate and guide us firstly through four selected representatives, and now through pious chosen representatives, whoever Imam selects.

The Prophet (saw) himself declared that this was the greatest Eid for the Ahlul Bayt (as) and said to Imams Ali, Hasan and Husain (as), “It is on this day that Allah will destroy your enemies and the enemies of your grandfather and it is on this day when Allah will accept the actions of your Shia and those who love you.  This is the day when the words of Allah came true where He said (in the Qur`an): ‘So those are the houses ruined because they were unjust…’ (27:52). And this is the day when the Pharaoh (Firawn) of the time of the Ahlul Bayt was destroyed…”

Many other hadiths state that the most blessed people from the Prophet’s ummah will be those who will be the followers of the final Imam, Imam Mahdi (as), who will have to live in times where they do not see him yet they loyally follow him (as). How blessed we are to be part of that nation!

WABIL reminds all believers that in our celebrations, we are humble, devout, pious, we always stay within the bounds of Shariah, and yet we whole-heartedly rejoice and pledge our allegiance to our Master! We offer recitations of Ziyaraat and Dua Ahad renewing our covenant to serve him (as).

Today as the heavens and the earth rejoice, WABIL extends its warmest wishes to all on the Imamate of the saviour for mankind, Imam Mahdi!
