Ankara Protest Attack
Dated: October 12, 2015
World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) condemns the twin explosions yesterday in Ankara killing over 100 and injuring 250 people during the peaceful protest as people gathered for a march organised by leftist groups. We offer our condolences to the families of those killed and injured, and to the Turkish people in general.
WABIL understands that the rally was demanding an end to the violence between the Kurdish separatist PKK group and the Turkish government. The pro-Kurdish HDP party was among those attending, and it said in a statement that it believes its members were the main target of the bombings.
WABIL believes in the fundamental right of people to protest for their human rights and national equality. However all such protests should be peaceful. We condemn ALL forms of terrorism, as violence, maiming and the killing of people is a most heinous unIslamic act. As Shias who are often at the receiving end of terror acts and suicide bombs, we understand the pain of those affected all too well.
WABIL calls upon the Turkish government to investigate this crime expediently and take the perpetrators to account, no matter who they are. Nobody is above the law.
We stand by the Turkish people in their mourning and hour of grief.
