Condemnation of Attack on Parachinar Shias Decemeber 2015

Dated: December 13, 2015

World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) condemns the utterly appalling bomb blast attack today  by Lashkar-e Jhangvi  that has  killed 23 people and Injured over 30 at a crowded bazaar in a predominantly Shiite area of Pakistan's north-western tribal region. We offer our sincere condolences to the families of the victims of today’s attack. Our prayers are with the martyrs and those mourning them.

The extremist Wahabi organisation said they had planted an IED (improvised electronic device) at the Eidgah used-clothes market in Parachinar city in retaliation for Shiite support of Iran and Bashar al-Assad. "We warn the Shiite parents that if they don't stop their children from participating in the war of Bashar al-Assad, they would face more attacks like this,"  Bin Sufiyan, believed to be a spokesman for Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, said in a message to the media.

WABIL condemns the human rights violations and the lack of freedom of religious tolerance in Pakistan. Pakistan was built on ideals, by Shia leaders largely, to safeguard the rights, freedoms, and equal citizenship, of all its people, regardless of ethnicity, language, faith, or gender. It has fallen pitifully below those ideals, and in fact it has become a nation where the vulnerable are attacked, where those in power look the other way, and where extremism has taken a satanic hold on the nation. The only solution is for the government and military personnel to eradicate all violent extremists, to bring them to accountability, and to protect the rights of those under attack, especially the Shias who are being killed on a daily basis.

If the government of Pakistan wants to see its country respected and not labelled a barbaric, extremist, vicious state, then it should shun extremism and pursue the perpetrators of these attacks. WABIL calls upon the international community to intervene to put pressure on Pakistan to protect its Shias and other citizens, to protect the Shias of Parachinar and other regions, and to eradicate extremism.
