Question ID 418 - Zakat and Khums - 2013-04-24 12:00:02 |
Salam Alaykum,
I am in the Taqlid if Ayatollah Sayyid Sistani. My question is:
If I have been given money by my parents on which they have paid khums is it necessary for me to pay khums at the end of the year if the money is surplus for me?
Also what should be done in the situations where there is uncertainty as to whether khums has been paid by my parents on this money or in the situation they have definitely not paid khums on this money?
Thank you

Answer:- As you have become the new owner of that money, any amount remaining from
that money after one year or on your Khums date, must be included in Khums
calculations, means you must pay its Khums.
There is no difference whether the previous owner paid or did not pay Khums
when he was the owner.
Wassalam.
