Question ID 1608 Thursday 3rd of July 2014

Question:

I am in doubt about kaffara fidya and qaza regarding an obligatory fast. Some people say it is 60 days of continuous fasting while some say you can give an amount of food to a poor person for each fast, some say it is 60 poor persons who should be fed for each missed fast Please make it clear what these different words mean wassalam

Answer:

Kaffara is different from Fidya. Kaffara is like a penalty on a person who
broke his fast deliberately or did not fast intentionally. Kaffara now
a days is either fasting for two months, or feeding sixty poor persons for
every day of deliberately broken or intentionally left fast. No doubt,
Qadha of missed fast remains obligatory along with the Kaffara.
Fidya is obligatory on those who can not fast and can not keep Qadha. Fidya
is feeding one poor person for every missed fast.

Question:

I recently got engaged and long to see my fiancé, who does not live in my province. however this is the month of mahe ramadhan and I have been told it is haram to travel during this month for any reason other than medical attention. is this true? is it haram to travel?

Answer:

No it is not Haraam to travel during the month of Ramadhan. But just
engagement will not allow you to meet your fiance or speak intamcy, with
out reciting the marriage agreement whether permanent or temporary.
You may travel after midday to save your fast of that day and return next
day to reach your town before midday to have your fast valid as well.
