Condemnation of Iraq Football Stadium Suicide Attack
Dated: March 28, 2016
World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) condemns the devastating attack in Iskandariya football stadium, south of Baghdad, Iraq, on Saturday, killing 30 people and injuring 95. We condole the government and people of Iraq. WABIL extends its deepest sympathies to the families of those killed, and the injured.
The attack has been claimed by the criminal and illegitimate entity Daesh, (N-ISIS). The football match was an amateur game, attended by many families and also the mayor, killed while presenting a trophy at the end of the match. The local population were mostly Shia, who have been specifically targeted by Daesh for the last few years in Iraq and Syria. The terrorists had killed 60 people earlier in the month in Hilla via an explosion at a government check-point.
We cannot express our shock and sadness in words. Daesh has wreaked havoc, murder, and mayhem at a colossal rate, because it is being backed, funded and trained by certain states who parade themselves as legal sovereign states but whose extremist Islamic ideology has in fact given birth to Daesh. These states are deliberately funding Daesh to cause discord under the guise of sectarian violence. However, those funding Daesh / N-SIS do not realise that the devastation they are causing will in fact turn onto themselves, for evil has no limits.
We stand with the government of Iraq and urge it to bring the perpetrators to justice and to take affirmative action to protect and secure its country. However, as Iraq is being flooded by foreign Daesh fighters, we urge the international community to take action to assist Iraq in its efforts to destroy the Daesh terror.
WABIL offers its support in these efforts and stresses the need for world powers to promote peace and wipe out the terrorist scourge which seems to be over-running the world.
