Hayatabad Peshawar Suicide Bombing 13 February 2015
Dated: February 13, 2015
WABIL extends its heartfelt condolences to those who have lost near and dear ones in the suicide bomb attack on Friday 13 February 2015 in Hayatabad, Peshawar, Pakistan, outside a Shia Imambargah during Friday congregational prayers, for which the Taliban have claimed responsibility. We are appalled at this bloodthirsty attack which has claimed 19 lives so far and injured more than 50, and condemn such vile terrorism. Only two weeks previously we condemned a similar attack in Sindh. We are also greatly concerned that the banned Ahlul Sunnah Wal Jamaah rallied outside Parliament House Islamabad yesterday calling for the death of ‘Shia infidels’. We protest against the continued violence against Shias in Pakistan and protest against the ineffectiveness of governmental agencies in bringing a halt to these systematic targeted killings.
We comfort the families of those martyred, and reassure them that their blood has not been shed in vain. We urge the government of Pakistan to show its resolve against terrorism and those supporting and funding it, by bringing the perpetrators to justice through due process of the law.
We call upon the United Nations to declare this a genocide and to intervene to halt this lawlessness. We also call upon the Pakistani High Commissioner based in London to meet with us to discuss a practical and swift resolution, as it is the duty of the government of Pakistan, if it is to be seen as a legitimate and worthy government, to take action to ensure the safety and security of all its people.
