Question ID 2025 Wednesday 29th of October 2014

Question:

Salam, A Syed and a non Syed can be equal in piety, submission to the Will of Allah, wealth, health and everything else, except lineage. Does this mean Syeds and non Syeds are not equal as Syeds are from the lineage of the Prophet(SAW) and Ahlulbayt(AS)? And Allah blessed the Prophet(SAW) with descendants, so does this show that it is better to be a Syed if you have everything else the same as a non Syed? In terms of lineage, Syeds are a blessing and divine gift to the Prophet(SAW), Imam Ali(AS), Hazrat Fatima(SA) and non Syeds are not. Does this mean that Syeds and non Syeds are not equal; as in terms of lineage, Syeds are a blessing of/to the Prophet(SAW), Imam Ali(AS) and Hazrat Fatima(SA), whilst non Syeds are not?

Answer:

To be a Sayyed is not only a blessing but also a responsibility to follow
the teachings of the Prophet (SAWA) and Ahlul Bayt (AS). Taqwa is the main
criteria in front of Allah (SWT) and non pious persons are bad even if they
were prophet's children like son of prophet Noah (AS) . We must always
focus on our faith and deeds and not on lineage because lineage will not
help those who are not pious.
