Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'Generosity is one of the noble traits possessed by prophets. It is the pillar of belief, such that only a true believer will be generous, as well as one who possesses great certainty and high aspiration, for generosity is a gleam from the light of certainty, and the one who knows what he wants finds it easy to give away.

Question ID  1790  -  Zakat and Khums -  2014-07-30 18:45:02
Alsalaam Do I have to pay khums on the money I need to pay the government as tax? For example I have a total of £10000 in my account but £4000 I need to pay the UK government as tax (which will happen after my fixed khums date) So do I calculate khums on the full £10000 or just on the £6000? Walsalaam.

Answer:-  If the tax is for the year ending within your date of Khums, then tax is
included in that year's expenses, i.e. remove the 4000 and pay for 6000
only. If the tax is for the next year, then you must pay Khums for the
whole 10000 and pay the tax from the income of next year.
